West Florida Opens GSC Play with Four-Set Win Over Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, GA. - The University of West Florida volleyball team kicked off Gulf South Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Valdosta State on Tuesday night at The Complex. The Argonauts (8-3, 1-0) bounced back after dropping a tight first set to take the next three convincingly, sealing the win by scores of 26-28, 25-18, 25-23, and 25-15.

Freshman Ana Colon led the offensive charge, tallying a match-high 14 kills on .270 hitting to go along with 11 digs for her second double-double of the season. Reece Wright added 10 kills on .304 efficiency, while Gabi Moulton orchestrated the attack with 32 assists, eight kills, and 15 digs. Off the bench, Magdalena Vongkasemsiri provided a spark with four kills on a .500 clip in the final frame.

Defensively, Maddie Mire posted a match-high 29 digs, helping hold the Blazers to just a .157 team hitting percentage. Camryn Brooks added nine digs and three service aces of her own, keeping Valdosta State under pressure from the service line. As a team, UWF posted 93 digs and eight aces, forcing the Blazers into 47 attack errors across the match.
 
With the win, the Argonauts improve to 8-3 overall and 1-0 in GSC play. West Florida will travel this weekend for a pair of conference matches. The Argos will face Union on Friday at 6:00 p.m., and Christian Brothers on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Live stats will be available on GoArgos.com.
