PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 12 UWF Softball (13-2, 2-0) opened home and conference play with two impressive wins against Christian Brothers, earning a 4-0 shutout and a 10-2 run rule in back-to-back doubleheader games on Friday.
The Argos are now 46-2 all time against the Lady Bucs and are on a 30-game win streak in the series dating back to 2015.
UWF saw an all-around roster contribution to the two wins, with 16 of the 18 players on the 2026 roster entering the game and making plays in the doubleheader.
Individual Highlights:
Freshman
Miranda Harmon was highly effective from the leadoff spot yet again, batting .571 and going 4-7 with three runs and two RBI. She also added two more stolen bases to lead the team with 13 on the season.
Nevaeh Hayes led the team with a .600 average, going 3-5 with a run in the two games.
Abigail Pippen started game two, but made the most of it with a 2-4 performance and two doubles with four RBI.
In the circle,
Haley Guffey picked up shutout no. 2 on the year in game one, and improving her record to 8-0, the best in the GSC. Her season ERA improves to 2.50. The senior also contributed four K's in the performance.
Hannah Harper turned in another two-way performance, allowing one run in six innings in the run-rule win when pitching and hitting for .500 on eight at-bats. She recorded four hits, two runs, a double, a triple, and an RBI in the twinbill.
Game 1: UWF 4, CBU 0
Haley Guffey started in the circle and recorded a quick inning as the Lady Bucs went in order.
Meg Fountain reached on a single, advanced to third on a wild pitch and groundout, and was scored on an error.
Both teams pitching staffs and defenses tightened up in innings two through four, with UWF leaving three total runners on base and CBU leaving one. In the bottom of the fifth, West Florida once again benefitted from a CBU error, as
Olivia Keith reached on an error by third base on the throw, and Harmon scored.
Up 2-0 entering the sixth, Harmon brought in two more insurance runs, scoring the pinch running
Alex Whitfield and
Angelia Discenza on a two RBI single up the middle.
With a 4-0 score,
Haley Guffey closed out what would be the final frame in the top of the seventh with two flyouts and a swinging strikeout.
Game 2: UWF 10, CBU 2 / in Six innings
Harper entered to pitch in game two and the Lady Bucs managed to take a brief 1-0 lead on an RBI single, unearned due to an earlier error. UWF wasted no time tying it up on a
Nicole Mergen RBI double through the left side to score Harmon from the leadoff spot.
In the bottom of the second tied 1-1, A wild pitch with multiple runners on allowed
Jessie Baughan to score and take the lead. UWF never relinquished it from here on, adding another run in the same inning in a
Meg Fountain RBI groundout to score Hayes.
UWF added a fourth run in the third inning on an
Abigail Pippen RBI double to score Harper. The Lady Bucs were now down 4-1, but added a run in an RBI groundout in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-2. The Argos managed to strand two runners to end the inning.
The lead began to expand in the fourth as Harper tripled to center field, scoring Harmon again. Another CBU error allowed Pippen to reach, and Harper to score.
UWF needed four more runs up 6-2 entering the sixth to get into run rule territory and got there by the inning's end. Pippen started it with another two RBI double to get Discenza and Brice across. Baughan managed an RBI groundout as Whitfield scored pinch running. Keith reached on a fielder's choice that brought across the final run in Pippen, which was challenged and upheld on official review to trigger the 10-2 run rule in six.
