West Florida Knocks Off No. 3 North Georgia in First Round of ITA Indoor Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 7 University of West Florida women's tennis team picked up a ranked win on Friday afternoon, defeating No. 3 University of North Georgia, 4-2, at Farmer's Bank Fieldhouse to advance to the semifinals of the ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships.
 
The Argonauts (2-2) secured the victory behind strong singles play after dropping the doubles point. At No. 2 doubles, Aline Midori and Guadalupe Martinez earned a 6-2 win, but UNG claimed courts one and three to take the early 1-0 lead.
 
UWF responded in singles action with four wins to clinch the match. Sandra Recuenco was sharp at No. 4 singles, cruising to a 6-4, 6-1 victory, while Alberte Joergensen battled to a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win at No. 5. Kylie Kochis added another point at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) decision.
 
The clincher came at No. 1 singles, where Carlota Verdu outlasted Anastasiia Opolska in a three-set, near three-hour thriller, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), to secure the 4-2 victory for the Argonauts
 
The Argos will now take on Nova Southeastern in the semifinals. The match is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. Live stats will be available on GoArgos.com.
