PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's and women's tennis teams were both ranked the number two teams in Division II by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the association announced on Wednesday. The men remain at the two-spot for the second consecutive week while the women advanced five spots from last week's poll.
The men earned the second spot again after an outstanding outing at the ITA Men's National Team Indoor Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Argos defeated No. 7 UT Tyler, 4-1, and No. 3 Flagler, 4-2, to advance to the championship match for the second consecutive year.
The women advanced five places after a monumental performance in Indianapolis, entering the ITA Women's National Team Indoor Championship tournament as the six-seed and No. 7 team in the nation, and upset No. 3 North Georgia and No. 2 Nova Southeastern to advance to the finals. The Argos then fell to No. 1 Barry in a competitive championship match.
Both Argonaut teams will now travel to Tyler, Texas to participate in the GSC/Lonestar Crossover Tournament. UWF will open play against host UT Tyler at 10 a.m. Live stats will be available on GoArgos.com.
