Box Score 1 CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Warner Park in Chattanooga will be the site of the 2026 DII Softball National Championship, and UWF Softball (8-0) is doing everything it can to return to the field in May as they earn two more impressive wins to remain perfect on the season.
The Argos started the day with a comeback win over Ohio Dominican 7-5 before scoring three runs in the final inning against undefeated No. 8 West Texas A&M and walking it off for the win.
Hannah Harper delivered the crucial hit, scoring both runners in scoring position.
No Argo Softball team has started a season 8-0 dating back to the start of digitally recorded seasons on GoArgos.com in 2006. Through the first eight games of the season, the Argos have outscored opponents by a sum of 61 runs to 32. They also continue to rely on rallies at important times, turning in a six-run inning vs ODU and the three runs in the seventh against the No. 8 Buffs.
Individual Performances:
Haley Guffey already has five wins on the season after picking up another today against West Texas A&M. the senior allowed two earned runs in seven innings and held a team that had scored 48 runs in four games to just two. She currently leads the GSC in the metric.
Freshman continue to be major contributors to the Argos' success, with
Meg Fountain,
Miranda Harmon, and
Brianna Adams all having important moments. Fountain's two RBI triple against ODU helped UWF take the lead in the first game of the day.
Harmon's 3 for 4 performance at the plate with a run and an RBI proved to be a tipping point in the top 10 win over the Buffs. She also leads the Argos as a freshman with 11 runs this season.
Adams' first win of the season in the circle came against ODU on a five inning, three earned run performance with two K's and just four hits allowed.
Additionally, Freshman
Gabrielle Luna recorded her first single of the season in the seventh against West Texas A&M and a run was scored by freshman
Alex Whitfield who came in to pinch run for her.
Finally, Harper's combined 3-7 day at the plate along with three RBI and a run was the key piece to UWF's successful first day in Chattanooga.
UWF 7, ODU 5
Both teams failed to score through the first two innings. UWF jumped on the scoreboard first in B3 on an
Emma Brice RBI double to score Abigil Pippen.
It remained 1-0 Argos as Adams held the Panthers scoreless until the fifth, when ODU hit an RBI double of their own and followed it up with a 2 RBI single. UWF cleared the bases and got to the next half inning, where the Panthers' lead didn't last long.
Down 1-3, UWF began a rally, starting with a
Nevaeh Hayes double.
Olivia Keith came into pinch run and scored via
Kyndal Cornelius. Fountain tripled next, scoring Cornelius from second and Harmon from first.
Harper hit an RBI single to score Fountain and
Jessie Baughan finished it off with a 2 RBI single benefitting Harper and
Nicole Mergen.
Up 7-3 in the sixth, harper entered for Adams in the circle. ODU managed to score one from third on a double play and another on a wild pitch but were held blank in the seventh and fell to the Argos 7-5.
UWF 3, #8 WEST TEXAS A&M 2
The Buffs scored quickly in the first on an RBI single that was followed by a double steal of second and home. Guffey limited the damage to just the run in the first.
In the third, a single and an RBI triple from the Buffs pushed their lead to 2-0. After this, Guffey held the Buffs scoreless over the next four innings allowing her batters to work.
UWF left six runners stranded in the game, including four total in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Finally, they were down to their last three outs in the seventh and put it together.
Luna pinch hit for
Nevaeh Hayes and recorded her first single of the season. An error by West Texas A&M allowed Cornelius to reach and Luna to advance to second. Whitfield came into pinch run for her and scored on an RBI single from Harmon.
It was now 1-2 Buffs with runners in scoring position. Harper took a six-pitch at bat and hit a 2 RBI single walk-off on the seventh to get her squad a top-10 win, 3-2.
