WINTER PARK, Fla. – The No. 11 University of West Florida baseball team fell to Rollins on Saturday afternoon in a 6-1 loss.
The Tars got the early jump, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first.
Tanner Taylor was able to capitalize for the Argos, bringing in
Gustavo Mendez on a single through the left side in the top of the second.
Both teams went without another run until Rollins added two more in the bottom of the fifth, extending their lead to 5-1 and eventually adding their final run in the eighth.
"We had a slow start with not a great first inning obviously getting down 3-0, playing behind the rest of the game and it finally caught up with us," said head coach
Mike Jeffcoat. "Their pitching did a good job shutting us down offensively. We had a couple of innings with a chance to do something, but we didn't take advantage. We've got to bounce back tomorrow with a little more energy, focus and win the series."
Elijah Roberts started on the mound and split time with
Braden Rapp, both going four innings with three runs each.
Brett Dennis earned the win for Rollins, going through five innings with one run scored.
West Florida returns tomorrow, February 8, for the final game of the series against Rollins at 11:00 AM CT.
