PENSACOLA, Fla. — The No. 1 University of West Florida men's tennis team defeated No. 23 Lee University 6-1 on Saturday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The Argonauts secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and won five of six singles matches.
West Florida secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two.
Diego Duran and
Sebastian Rondon triumphed at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 win over Lee's Quinn Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen. At No. 2 doubles,
Goncalo Quintela and
Rafael Sabio clinched the point by defeating Stefan Mos and Filipe Krohn, 6-3. The No. 3 doubles match between
Mark Neyelov,
Samuel Vidales of the Argonauts and Francisco Guimarães, Rytis Razminas of the Flames was left unfinished at 5-4.
In singles, Duran opened with a decisive win at No. 2 singles, defeating Groenendijk 6-0, 6-3.
Vicente Couto followed with a three-set victory over Langerhuizen, 6-0, 1-6, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. At No. 6 singles, the Flames' Razminas earned its sole singles point with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Quintela.
The Argonauts extended their lead when Sabio prevailed in a three-set battle at No. 5 singles, overcoming Guimarães 6-7, 7-5, 7-6(7). Neyelov added another point for the Argonauts with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles, defeating Mos 6-3, 6-2. Finally, Rondon completed the match with a hard-fought victory at No. 1 singles, edging out Krohn 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(5).
