PENSACOLA, Fla. — The No. 1 University of West Florida men's tennis team defeated Harding University 5-2 on Tuesday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The Argonauts swept all three doubles matches and won four of six singles matches and have now won 11 straight matches.
West Florida secured the doubles point with a clean sweep. The team of
Vicente Couto and
Mateo Martinez clinched a decisive 6-1 victory on court three against Edoardo De Las Salas and Edoardo D'Arrigo, while
Goncalo Quintela and
Rafael Sabio followed with a 6-2 triumph on court two over Jan Alexander Has and Florian Gayme. The doubles sweep was completed when
Diego Duran and
Sebastian Rondon earned a 7-6 win at No. 1 doubles against Cian Mikkelsen and Adrian Solorzano.
In singles, the Argonauts continued their dominance with a series of victories.
Vicente Couto initiated the scoring for West Florida at No. 2 singles, overcoming Edoardo De Las Salas in a tight three-set match, 6-7, 7-6, 7-5. Harding responded with a win at No. 1 singles as Adrian Solorzano defeated
Mark Neyelov, 6-4, 6-4. The Argonauts extended their lead with
Goncalo Quintela's 6-1, 6-1 victory over Caleb Folse at No. 5 singles and
Mateo Martinez's 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Cian Mikkelsen.
Harding added another point with Luis Agullo's 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles against
Samuel Vidales. However,
Rafael Sabio secured the overall match victory for the Argonauts, with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles against Jan Alexander Has. This result finalized West Florida's 5-2 triumph over Harding.
