Argos Sweep Doubleheader Over Sharks

PENSACOLA, Fla. — West Florida swept Nova Southeastern in a doubleheader on Wednesday at Jim Spooner Field, securing a 5-2 victory in the first game followed by a commanding 4-0 win in the second. The Argos showcased strong offensive performances and effective pitching throughout both games.

Game 1
West Florida took an early lead in the first inning of the opener. Zack Stokes singled up the middle and then stole second base, allowing William Lybrook to bring him home with an RBI single, putting the Argos up 1-0. However, Nova Southeastern responded in the second inning with a two-run homer, giving them a 2-1 advantage. The game remained tight until a pivotal four-run sixth inning propelled West Florida to victory.

Stokes singled and advanced to third after two hit-by-pitches loaded the bases. Tyler Brobst's sacrifice fly tied the game, and a series of plays, including a single by Trent Kelly and an RBI single by Jed Jones, pushed the Argos ahead. Hudson Spencer walked with the bases loaded for another run, and Gann Nobles was hit by a pitch for the final RBI of the inning.

Braden Rapp started for the Argos, pitching 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 3 batters. Blake Thomas contributed a scoreless inning in relief, and Micky Scheetz closed the game, earning the save.

Game 2
In the second game, West Florida continued their dominance with a decisive 4-0 victory, highlighted by a productive fifth inning. Tyler Brobst initiated the scoring with a home run to right field, and Trent Kelly followed with a single down the left field line. After a fielding error allowed Jed Jones to reach base, Greg Pettay entered as a pinch hitter and delivered an RBI single. Jay Henderson, pinch running for Jones, advanced to third and scored on Alex Urias's two-RBI single to right center, giving the Argos a solid 4-0 lead.

Garrett Brewer delivered a standout performance, pitching 6 innings, allowing just 1 hit with no earned runs and striking out 9 batters. Eli Lamb contributed effectively in relief, striking out 2 and allowing no hits or walks, completing the shutout.

West Florida will travel to face Trevecca Nazarene on Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee.
