Argos Split Doubleheader Against Trojans

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — West Florida faced a mixed doubleheader against Trevecca Nazarene University on Friday at Jackson Field, securing a decisive 6-1 victory in the first game but falling 9-3 in the second.

Game 1
In the first game, West Florida opened the scoring in the third inning when Alex Urias doubled down the left-field line, advancing Zack Stokes to third. Mendez followed with a single through the right side, bringing in both Stokes and Urias for a 2-0 lead after three innings. In the fifth inning, Stokes extended the lead with a solo home run down the right-field line, pushing West Florida's advantage to 3-0. The sixth inning saw West Florida adding two more runs. William Lybrook singled up the middle and later scored, alongside Trent Kelly, on a two-RBI single to left field by Hudson Spencer

West Florida continued to build its lead in the seventh inning. Urias singled and advanced to third on a pitcher's error. Tyler Brobst then doubled to right-center, driving Urias home and making it 6-0. Trevecca Nazarene managed to score in the ninth inning with a solo home run, but West Florida secured a 6-1 victory.

Colton Dorsey delivered a commanding performance on the mound, pitching 7 innings without allowing an earned run. He struck out 6 batters, gave up only 4 hits, and issued 2 walks. Blake Thomas, in relief, pitched 2 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit and a walk. 

Game 2
In the second game, West Florida and Trevecca Nazarene were scoreless through the first two innings. In the third, Hudson Spencer singled to right center and Zack Stokes followed with a single to shortstop. Alex Urias bunted for a single, loading the bases. Mendez then reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Spencer to score. An RBI walk by Tyler Brobst brought Stokes home, giving the Argonauts a 2-0 lead. 

Trevecca responded in their half with a three-run homer that put the home team ahead 4-2 after three. Ethan Babcock homered to right center in the fourth, narrowing the deficit to 4-3. The Argonauts closed the inning without further scoring, and it remained 4-3, Trevecca. In the fifth, Trevecca homered to extend their lead to 5-3. Trevecca added four runs in the sixth inning pushing their lead to 9-3.

Elijah Roberts opened the game for the Argonauts, pitching 2.1 innings with three strikeouts. 

The Argonauts will finish the series against Trevecca at 12 p.m. CT on Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee.
