NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The University of West Florida fell to Trevecca Nazarene University with a final score of 5-1 on Saturday at Jackson Field. The Argonauts took an early lead with a solo home run in the first inning, but the Trojans responded with a four-run surge in the final three innings to secure the victory.
Zack Stokes put the Argonauts on the board early with a home run down the left field line. Despite a single from
Tyler Brobst and an error, the team left two runners on base. The inning concluded with a 1-0 lead for West Florida.
In the fourth inning, Trevecca Nazarene tied the game on a RBI single, bringing the score to 1-1.
Trevecca Nazarene took control in the seventh inning. A trio of singles allowed the Trojans to get ahead. In the eighth inning, a two-run homer to left field extended their lead. The inning ended with a 5-1 advantage for Trevecca Nazarene.
Tucker Ricks pitched 6.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on eight hits, while striking out three and walking one.
Blake Thomas entered in relief, pitching 2/3 of an inning, giving up two runs on three hits, including a home run, while striking out one.
Micky Scheetz closed out the game with 2/3 of an inning, facing two batters and recording a strikeout without allowing a hit.
The Argonauts will return home to host UAH at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13 at Jim Spooner Field.
