MONTEVALLO, Ala. – MONTEVALLO, Ala. — The No. 2 University of West Florida men's tennis team (8-1) defeated the University of Montevallo (2-2) 7-0 on Friday at the Tennis Court Complex. West Florida clinched the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and swept all six singles matches.
West Florida secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and one. Vicente Couto and Mark Neyelov opened the scoring with a 6-0 victory over Christian Bacher and Leonidas Lazarides at No. 2 doubles. The point was clinched when #3 Sebastian Rondon and Diego Duran defeated Samuel Maia and Luiz Gobbi 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Montevallo picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, where #47 Guilherme Gracioli and Simon Luigs overcame #22 Rafael Sabio and Goncalo Quintela 6-4.
In singles, West Florida dominated across all courts. #5 Rondon set the tone with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Maia at No. 1 singles. Mateo Martinez followed suit at No. 2 singles, dispatching Bacher 6-3, 6-1. Neyelov battled through three sets to defeat Gracioli 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Sabio added another point for the Argonauts with a straight-sets victory, 7-5, 5-3, against Edgar Dufresne at No. 4 singles. Quintela and Samuel Vidales completed the sweep, each winning their matches with identical 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-2 scorelines at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, over Lazarides and Gobbi.
