Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of West Florida defeated Delta State University 4-1 on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the GSC Championship. West Florida secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions and added singles wins on courts No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6.
West Florida secured the doubles point in the GSC Championship match against Delta State with decisive victories on courts 1 and 3. The No. 3 doubles team,
Kylie Kochis and
Sophie Smith, delivered a 6-3 win over Lena Kuehn and Angie Moreno. This was followed by the No. 1 pair,
Sandra Recuenco and
Carlota Verdu, ranked No. 5 nationally, who clinched the point with a 6-1 victory against Amelia Ciesielczyk and Yasmina Mayer. The match on court 2 was left unfinished with West Florida leading 4-3.
In singles, West Florida extended its lead quickly.
Carlota Verdu, ranked No. 5, earned a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles over Amelia Ciesielczyk. Aline Da Silva, ranked No. 30, added another point with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles against Trinity Ly.
Guadalupe Martinez, ranked No. 37, secured the overall match victory at No. 4 singles, defeating Anastasi Iakovlieva 6-1, 6-3.
Alberte Joergensen continued the winning momentum at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Lena Kuehn. Meanwhile,
Sandra Recuenco, ranked No. 33, left her match unfinished at No. 2 singles against Yasmina Mayer with the score standing at 6-3, 6-2, 0-0. Finally, Kochis wrapped up the day with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles over Moreno, making the final dual score 6-0 in favor of West Florida.
