UWF Men's Tennis Wins GSC Title over Lee

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The No. 1 University of West Florida men's tennis team captured its first GSC championship in four years by defeating No. 12 Lee University 4-1 on Saturday at the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center.  By securing the championship, West Florida also earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Argonauts secured the victory by winning both the doubles point and three of the singles matches.

West Florida secured the doubles point against Lee in the 2026 GSC Championship final. The No. 3 pair of Rytis Razminas and Francisco Guimaraes gave Lee an early win by defeating West Florida's Mark Neyelov and Samuel Vidales, 6-3. However, the Argonauts responded with victories at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. Goncalo Quintela and Rafael Sabio clinched with a 7-6(2) victory over Stefan Mos and Filipe Krohn. Diego Duran and Sebastian Rondon, ranked No. 1 nationally, added a 7-6(6) win against Quinn Groenendijk and Jip Langerhuizen to complete the doubles point.

In singles action, Diego Duran of West Florida, ranked No. 3, opened with a decisive 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lee's Quinn Groenendijk, ranked No. 33, putting the Argonauts up 2-0. Lee responded at No. 6 singles as Rytis Razminas defeated Mark Neyelov 7-5, 6-3, narrowing the score to 2-1. West Florida then extended its lead with Sebastian Rondon's comeback win at No. 1 singles, overcoming Lee's Filipe Krohn, ranked No. 16, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Mateo Martinez, ranked No. 72, clinched the championship for the Argonauts at No. 3 singles, battling for a 3-6, 7-5, 6-5 victory over Jip Langerhuizen. Goncalo Quintela added to the final margin with a three-set win at No. 5 singles, defeating Francisco Guimaraes 6-3, 6-7(7), 7-5. Rafael Sabio's match at No. 4 singles against Stefan Mos was left unfinished, with the score at 3-6, 7-5, 6-6, completing West Florida's 5-1 triumph over Lee.
