PENSACOLA, Fla. – University of West Florida head men's basketball coach Tanner Smith has announced the addition of Raheem Martin as an assistant coach for the Argonauts.
Martin joins UWF after spending nearly four years at Appalachian State, including the past three seasons as an assistant coach. He will assist with all aspects of the West Florida program, including recruiting, practice planning, player development, opponent scouting and game-plan preparation.
"There is no one I trust more than Coach Martin," said Coach Smith. "He is incredibly intentional in the relationships he builds with players and possesses an outstanding knowledge of the game of basketball. Our program will benefit tremendously from the addition of Coach Martin and his family."
Martin was elevated to assistant coach at Appalachian State in October 2023 after serving as the program's director of recruiting during the 2022–23 season. In that role, he helped coordinate the Mountaineers' recruiting operations and played an important part in attracting prospective student-athletes to the program.
Before returning to his home state of North Carolina, Martin spent two seasons at the University of Arkansas, where he served as the Razorbacks' coordinator of student-athlete development in 2022. Martin moved into the role after working as a graduate assistant with the Razorbacks from 2020 to 2022.
Martin began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Richard Bland College during the 2017–18 season. He later returned to his alma mater, Greensboro College, where he served as an assistant coach from 2019 to 2020.
A 2016 graduate of Greensboro College, Martin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and was a four-year letterwinner for the Pride men's basketball program. He was named the USA South Defensive Player of the Year following the 2013–14 season. He finished his playing career with 85 blocks, which ranked third in Greensboro program history, and 116 steals, which ranked ninth on the Pride's career list.
A native of Mocksville, North Carolina, Martin is the brother of twins Cody and Caleb Martin, who played collegiately at Nevada under Eric Musselman before beginning their NBA careers.
