Her .485 on-base percentage ranked fifth in single-season UWF history, her 8 triples were the sixth-most in a single season, and her 11 times hit by pitch were the third-most in single season history... Had season-high 4 hits against Christian Brothers (2/17)... Drove in 5 runs in win over Miles (2/27)... Set career highs in hits, doubles, triples, and RBIs... Led UWF with 14 two-out RBIs... Ended season on six-game on-base streak that lasted from 3/11-24, when she led the team in batting (.467), runs (7), home runs (2), RBIs (8), slugging (1.133) and on-base percentage (.619)... Hit .545 (6-11) with three runs, two RBIs, a double, a home run and four walks at the Gulf Coast Invitational to start the year... Had a two-hit, two-RBI day against Union (3/3) with a double and two runs scored... 2016 (Fr.): Started all 59 games for UWF as a freshman, becoming first All-American from UWF since 2010, and the eighth Argonaut to earn All-American honors in program history... Led UWF in hits (65), doubles (14), triples (6) and total bases (103)... Hit .460 and led the team with six doubles, four triples, 22 RBIs and 37 total bases during UWF's 16-game winning streak... Sassman concluded her season with the highest batting average for a freshman in program history (.342) and is the first UWF player with at least 100 total bases since All-Americans Shannon Miles and Amber Ingram did so in 2010... Named All-American Utility player, having spent 19 games at shortstop, nine behind the plate and 34 at third base... Hit .356 with four triples, five doubles, 27 RBIs and a .510 slugging percentage when playing third base... Lone freshman to be named a first team All-American this season... Ranked 13th nationally with 6 triples... Only player to be named GSC Player of the Week more than once in the 2016 season, doing so on February 16 and April 12... Made history with her awards on February 16, becoming the first player to ever be named the GSC Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week in the same week.
High School: Lettered in softball and volleyball for four years, lettered in weightlifting for two years at East River HS… 6A First Team All-State as a senior in 2015... Hit .380 as a junior in 2014 with a .485 on-base percentage and .531 slugging percentage… Member of softball district championship teams in 2012, 2014 and 2015… Captain of school volleyball team in 2014.
Personal: Daughter of Harrol and Carole Sassman… Has one sibling, Chelsea… Plans to attend pharmacy school after softball career is over… Member of National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Athletic Training Club and True Friends… Member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) at UWF... Enjoys working out, traveling and going to the beach… Started Tae Kwon Do at four years old, and earned a black belt at eight years old.
