Tyler Kanelos

Tyler Kanelos had a strong first campaign as an assistant with the UWF Volleyball program in 2015.  His work with opponent scouting and the Argonaut blocking scheme helped propel the team to a 28-7 record and a 10th straight NCAA Tournament appearance, while leading the GSC in several team defensive categories.
In 2015, with Kanelos at the helm of the UWF blocking scheme, the Argonauts led the GSC in blocks per set and opponent hitting percentage.  UWF finished the season ranked 36th in the nation in blocks per set and 23rd in opponent hitting percentage. The Argos out-blocked opponents in 25 of 35 matches and held teams below their season average hitting percentage in 32 of 35 matches on the year.  Individually, 2015 saw four players tally over .70 blocks per set.  The Argo block was anchored by Kathryn Torre, who led the GSC in total blocks, solo blocks, and blocks per set on her way to earning AVCA All-America honors.

Kanelos joined UWF in January 2015 after serving as an assistant coach for three years at Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. At Lock Haven Kanelos was the head of opponent scouting and helped lead the Bald Eagles to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division Championships in two of his three seasons.  Overall, Lock Haven compiled a 67-36 record during his time with the program, reaching the 20 win mark in each of his three seasons. With his assistance, Lock Haven reached the NCAA tournament in 2012, a season in which he coached 4 AVCA All Atlantic Region athletes and 5 All PSAC athletes, including both the PSAC Athlete of the Year and PSAC Defensive Athlete of the Year.  He played an integral role in the training of Gao Xuan, a 4 time AVCA All American and All Atlantic Region athlete and the only volleyball player in the history of the PSAC to win the conference’s Player of the Year award in four consecutive seasons.

In addition to his work at UWF, Kanelos is employed by Gold Medal Squared, an elite volleyball training company based out of Chico, California.  GMS specializes in the training of high school athletes at four day satellite camps.  These camps have produced over 450 state championship high school teams and countless NCAA Volleyball athletes across the country.
