Match Notes: UWF travels to Mississippi

Argonauts take on Delta State and Mississippi College

UWF ranks No. 5 in the GSC and No. 8 in the South Region.
CLEVELAND, Miss. - The West Florida women's soccer team travels to Mississippi for a pair of Gulf South Conference matches at Delta State and Mississippi College Friday and Sunday Oct. 24 and 26.

After ranking eighth in the NCAA Regional rankings, the Argonauts will look to improve their seeding in both the region and the conference with wins this weekend. Currently, UWF sits in fifth in the conference among teams eligible for the postseason.

The first two seeds of the GSC Tournament receive byes, and the three and four seeds host an opening round match. Thus, every spot in the seeding is important.

UWF ranked No. 8 in the South Region in the first set of NCAA regional rankings.

The top six teams in the South Region advance to the postseason with the top two seeds receiving a first-round bye and hosting the first two rounds of the postseason.
 
The winners of the Gulf South Conference Tournament and Sunshine State Conference receive automatic bids, and four teams receive at-large bids based on the regional rankings.

Argos in World Cup Qualifying

Four athletes with connections to West Florida advanced to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Women's Championship.

Former Argos Dernelle Mascall and Anastasia Prescott compete alongside current Argo Anique Walker for Trinidad and Tobago. Former Argo Daniela Cruz competes for Costa Rica.

Trinidad and Costa Rica play each other in the semifinals Friday.

The two finalists and winner of the match for third place will advance automatically, while the team finishing fourth will go into a playoff against a team from the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) for the chance to join the top trio at the World Cup in 2015. Neither Costa Rica nor Trinidad has ever qualified for the World Cup.
