SAINT LEO, Fla. – The West Florida men's soccer team tied No. 9 Saint Leo 0-0 on the road Sunday afternoon in Saint Leo, Fla. The Argonauts survived a pair of close calls as keeper Andre Moreira made saves in the finals seconds of regulation and the first overtime period to keep the shutout intact.

"We played well in terms of passing the ball for about half the match," UWF coach Bill Elliott said. "We spent the other half defending. We're improving as a team, and we're a little fortunate today to get a tie out of the game. But, we'll happily take it and move on to next week."

UWF (1-3-1) was outshot by Saint Leo (2-0-2) 22-8 in the game but the Argos had chances throughout.

The first half was a defensive battle, with UWF outshooting SLU 3-1. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, the Lions took six shots that resulted in three saves and two blocks but no goals.

Freshman Tristan Rehrig (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo HS) had the Argos' best look in the half, but his shot from within the box was blocked by a Lions defender.

With 13 seconds remaining in regulation, SLU took a free kick from one yard outside the penalty box, but Moreira (Rio de Janiero, Brazil/Fresno Pacific) made a diving one-handed save to keep the game scoreless.

In the first overtime, the Lions outshot the Argos 5-0 including a header that Moreira saved with 13 seconds remaining. In the second overtime, Ethan Judice (Lafayette, La./Lafayette HS) and Felipe Oliveira (Kissimmee, Fla./Gateway HS) each had shots that resulted in a save and a block, respectively.

UWF will open Gulf South Conference play when it hosts Union (Tenn.) Friday, Sept. 26, at 5 p.m. at the UWF Soccer Complex.
