CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The University of West Florida men's basketball team fell to Lee University 91-75 Thursday night in a Gulf South Conference match-up. The Argonauts (6-14, 2-12 GSC) were led by senior
Demetrius Moore (Paxton, Fla./Indiana State University) who scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds.
"I felt we very competitive the first half even though we didn't play great," said head coach
Bob Stinnett. "But in the second half the out worked us and we didn't respond."
West Florida struggled matching the Flames' hot shooting on the night after LU shot 53 percent (35-66) from the field while the Argos shot 38.9 percent (21-54). UWF made 27-of-36 from the free throw line, their highest mark of the season, but were unable to keep up with Lee after three different players scored 20 or more points.
Senior
Erin Straughn (Pensacola, Fla./East Caroline University) scored 14 points while also grabbing eight rebounds behind Moore.
Tyler Funk (Clarence, N.Y./Hillsborough CC) and
Lendward Griffin (Jacksonville, Fla./Ribault HS) each scored 11 points to round out the double-digit scoring for UWF.
West Florida will continue their road trip when they travel to Shorter University Jan. 31 for a GSC match-up at 4 p.m. ET.
