GAME NOTES: Argos host Christian Brothers for GSC match-up

UWF plays CBU and Columbus State

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida softball team returns home this weekend looking to snap its 11 game losing streak. The Argonauts (1-12, 0-6 GSC) face Christian Brothers University Feb. 27-28 and then Columbus State University March 4.

West Florida will begin its Gulf South Conference series against Christian Brothers with a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 27 starting at 2 p.m. CT. They will play the final game of the series on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. CT.

The Argos will also travel for a mid-week match-up against Columbus State University on Wednesday, March 4. First pitch of the doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. CT.
 
Previewing Christian Brothers

West Florida looks to snap its 11 game losing streak this weekend after they host Christian Brothers for a three game series.

The Lady Bucs (3-11, 1-5 GSC) are coming off a weekend where they lost all three games of a series against Gulf South Conference member Shorter University. 

CBU is led offensively by Jennifer Gonzales who has a batting average of .316, which ranks her 38th in the conference. She leads the Lady Bucs in hits (12) and doubles (4) this season, and has totaled five RBI.
 
Previewing Columbus St.

West Florida will travel to Columbus, Georgia for a non-conference match-up against Columbus St. on Wednesday, March 4. The Cougars will participate in the Mid-South Tournament Feb. 27-March 1 before facing the Argos.

Columbus St. (7-5, 0-0 PBC) is led by Kristen Carr who leads the team in batting average (.486), hits (18), and doubles (5). The Cougars are led in the circle by Lindsey DeFee who boasts a 1.95 ERA in 28.2 innings and 30 strikeouts. 

The Cougars last played on Feb. 17 because of multiple cancellations and postponements. Their last opponent was GSC member the University of West Alabama. CSU lost to the Tigers 6-4 in 10 innings in the first game of a doubleheader, but had the second game canceled due to inclement weather.
 
Around The GSC

Alabama Huntsville has jumped out to an early 5-0 start to lead Gulf South Conference play this season. The Chargers continue to rise in the NFCA National Poll as UAH is now tied for seventh overall in all of NCAA Division II. Sharing a spot with UAH as an undefeated is North Alabama. The Lions are 3-0. No. 2 Valdosta State is 14-2, including 5-1 in league play.
