PENSACOLA, Fla. - The University of West Florida softball team continues Gulf South Conference play at home this weekend. The Argonauts (10-20, 5-12 GSC) host Lee University for a GSC series.
West Florida will be hosting a Strike Out Cancer Day on Saturday, March 28 at both the UWF Softball Complex and Jim Spooner Field. Fans are encouraged to come out and support both teams and a fundraiser will be held to support the American Cancer Society.
After UWF's GSC series with Lee, the Argos will travel to Mobile, Alabama on Wednesday, April 1 for a non-conference doubleheader against Spring Hill College.
Previewing Lee
West Florida looks to continue its four game winning streak this weekend when they host the Lee Lady Flames for a three game series starting Saturday, March 28. The Lady Flames (19-12, 9-8 GSC) are currently sixth in the GSC standings but are ineligible for the post-season during the reclassification process.
The Lady Flames currently have five student-athletes hitting above .300 at the plate this season, and are led by Dominique Hannah who is batting .387 (41-for-106) and leads the GSC with 39 runs batted in.
Leading things for the Lady Flames in the circle is Leigh Beatenbough who has compiled a 7-7 record so far this season and in 91.1 innings pitched, she has an ERA of 2.22 with 66 strikeouts.
Previewing Spring Hill
The Argos will take on Spring Hill for the second time this season, having previously met on February 18 in Pensacola, Florida. UWF was swept in the doubleheader by the Badgers by scores of 5-0 in game one and 6-3 in game two.
The Badgers (23-6, 10-0 SIAC) recently saw their seven game winning streak snapped by #15 North Alabama after being swept by the Lions at home.
Leading things for SHC at the plate is Jenna Charnock who has a batting average of .404 this season. Charnock went 3-for-8 in two games the last time UWF saw Spring Hill.
Taylor and Hein Combine To Pitch Perfect Game For UWF

Becca Taylor (Panama City, Fla./Rutherford HS) and
Rebecca Hein (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) combined to pitch a perfect game against Miles College on Wednesday, March 25.
Taylor started the game for UWF and went three innings and struck out three batters without allowing a hit or a walk in the outing. UWF then made a pitching change in the fourth inning and Hein entered the circle looking to preserve the perfect game. The Vestavia Hills, Alabama native faced only six batters in two innings and struck out three to complete the perfect game for West Florida.
Rowell Named GSC Freshman of the Week
University of West Florida freshman
Kaylen Rowell (Pensacola, Fla./Tate HS) has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week after helping her team sweep the University of West Georgia last weekend.
Rowell earned this award for the first time of her career after she batted .500 (4-for-8) over the weekend and led the Argonauts with five RBI, two doubles, and one home run.
