COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 26 West Florida baseball was unable to keep pace with the Columbus State offense, losing 12-8 on the road Wednesday afternoon.
The Argonauts (11-7) were unable to take advantage of a pair of home runs from
Ledarious Clark (Meridian, Miss./East Mississippi CC) who went 3-for-5 with five RBIs.
"It was a disappointing road trip," UWF coach
Mike Jeffcoat said. "We didn't pitch well today. We swung the bats well and scored runs, but we just couldn't hold their offense down. We've got to see if we can regroup and get ready for conference this weekend."
Matt Rodriguez (Ocala, Fla./College of Central Florida) took the loss after last just 3.2 innings. Four Argonaut pitchers combined to allow five runs in 4.1 innings of relief.
The UWF offense tied the game once and cut into the lead five times, scoring at least one run in the fourth through eighth innings. But it wasn't enough to keep up with CSU offense.
Chase Kiefer (Pensacola, Fla./Pensacola Catholic HS) went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs, and
Alex Greene (Orlando, Fla./Hagerty HS) went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
UWF will host Union (Tenn.) in a three-game series March 7-8 at Jim Spooner Field beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
