RESULTS

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 2-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team fell to No. 1 Hawaii Pacific 3-6 at home on Wednesday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. West Florida's (18-2, 8-0 GSC) home winning streak against Division-II opponents ends at 59 with the loss. The Argonauts fall to 9-2 against nationally ranked opponents on the year.

"Today was a tough match, it's always going to be a tough match against these guys," head coach Derrick Racine said. "I think our guys showed a lot of heart today.  We were up 3-0 last time we played them in doubles, this time we were down 2-1 and we didn't give up. We got some key wins in singles and I think these guys are getting on the right track. These matches are really important when it comes down to postseason and confidence and just playing at that level."

West Florida's No. 1-ranked doubles team of junior Warren Kuhn (Johannesburg, South Africa) and senior Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) fell Hawaii Pacific's No. 5-ranked double team of Thibaud Berland and Yann Renault 4-8. Kuhn and Latella fall to 2-2 against nationally ranked opponents with the loss.

Junior Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) won 8-4 at number two doubles and improve to 4-0 against regionally ranked opponents on the year. Junior Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia/Colegio) fell at number three doubles 7-9 to end their streak of 15 consecutive doubles victories.

"I think our guys know what were up against," Racine said. "It's not going to be easy. But I think at the same time I think that they know they can do it so they just have to dig deep and go from there."

No. 25 Kuhn fell to No. 2 Marko Lenz 4-6, 1-6 at number one singles and drops to 1-2 against nationally ranked opponents. No. 9. Peyrot lost to No. 8 Thibaud Berland at number two singles by a score of 3-6, 4-6 and drops to 2-2 against nationally ranked opponents.

No. 31 Brasil fell to No. 15 Martinez-Vich at number three singles 3-6, 2-6 and drops to 2-3 against nationally ranked opponents on the year.

Borrero came back to win at number four singles by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 10-7 and improves to 4-1 against regionally ranked opponents. Borrero also defeated Burlage 6-3, 6-4 on March 13 in La Jolla, Calif.

Latella earned a big win at number five singles 7-5, 7-6 to avenge a 2-6, 1-6 loss earlier in the season to Jakub Hadrava on March 13 in La Jolla, Calif.

Junior Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) fell at number six singles 4-6, 4-6.
