UWF men's tennis team advances to GSC tournament finals

West Florida men’s tennis sweeps Christian Brothers 5-0 before defeating West Alabama 5-0

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The top-seeded University of West Florida men's tennis team advanced to the finals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament after defeating a pair of conference opponents on Saturday. UWF swept the No. 8 seed Christian Brothers 5-0 in the quarterfinals before defeating the No. 4 seed West Alabama 5-0 in the semifinals.
 
West Florida (22-3, 9-0 GSC) extends its winning streak against conference opponents to 40 and advances to the championship match for the fifth straight season.

West Florida will next face the No. 2 seed Valdosta State in the GSC Tennis Tournament Championship on Sunday, April 19 at 1:30 p.m. UWF and VSU have met in the GSC Championship the last three seasons and a total of 14 times. The Argonauts have a 9-5 record against the Blazers in the finals of the GSC Tennis Tournament.
 
The UWF men's tennis team will be looking for its fourth consecutive conference title and the programs 12th overall on Saturday.
 
West Florida 5, West Alabama 0
 
West Florida's No. 1-ranked doubles team of junior Warren Kuhn (Johannesburg, South Africa) and senior Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) won 8-5 at number one doubles while junior Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) won their eighth straight match at number two doubles 8-6.
 
Junior Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia) won at number three doubles 8-2.
 
No. 9. Peyrot won at number one singles by a score of 6-4, 6-3 while sophomore Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) won 6-1, 6-1 at number six singles.
 
West Florida 5, Christian Brothers 0
 
Kuhn and Latella won 8-4 at number one doubles en route to Latella's 70th career victory. Brasil and Peyrot won 8-3 at number two doubles while junior Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) and Tellez won 8-0 at number three doubles
 
No. 9 Peyrot won his 30th career match at number one singles by a score of 6-0, 6-1 while No. 31 Brasil also won his 30th career match as an Argonaut at number three singles by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
