RESULTS MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The top-seeded University of West Florida men's tennis team came back from a 0-3 deficit after doubles play to defeat the No. 2 seed Valdosta State 5-3 on Sunday in the Gulf South Conference Tournament championship match. West Florida (23-3, 9-0 GSC) earns its fourth consecutive, and 12th overall conference title after reaching to the championship match for the fifth straight season. UWF extends its winning streak against conference opponents to 41.
"Valdosta State really took it to us in doubles today," head coach
Derrick Racine said. "You can very easily be up 3-0 or down 0-3 at this level. We knew we could come back but we just didn't know if we had it in us today to come back in this big of a match."
"We didn't play as intense as VSU in the doubles matches and to their credit they came out and took it to us. We had to regroup after doubles. The guys believed we could win and our guys looked strong all the way to the end."
The University of West Florida now as 82 conference titles and has won three conference titles during the 2014-15 academic year.
The Argonauts improve their record to 10-5 against the Blazers in the finals of the GSC Tennis Tournament. This marks the third straight season UWF and VSU have met in the conference championship match, and the 14th overall.

Elio Latella (Sydney, Australia) fell to Niklas Hebring and Edward Nguyen at number one doubles 7-9.

Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and sophomore
Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) fell Valdosta State's No. 13 ranked doubles team of Gereon Heitmann and Ramon Weil at number two doubles 4-8 while junior
Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and sophomore
Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia) fell to Joachim Schemm and Francisco Yim Kim at number three doubles by a score of 6-8.
No. 9. Peyrot defeated No. 19 Leo Blay 6-2, 6-1 at number one singles and improves to 4-2 in matches against nationally ranked opponents.
No. 25 Kuhn defeated Yim Kim at number two singles 6-3, 6-4 while No. 31 Brasil defeated Hebring at number three singles 6-3, 6-1. With the win, Brasil improves to 5-3 in matches against regionally ranked opponents.
Borrero clinched the championship by defeating Heitmann 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 at number four singles while Latella defeated Nguyen at number five singles 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
West Florida came in at number two in the latest NCAA South Region rankings. The top two teams in the regional rankings at the end of the year will host the NCAA South Regional Championships.
