Game Notes: UWF Baseball hosts MC in Military Appreciation Game

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The West Florida baseball team begins April with a Gulf South Conference series against Mississippi College Friday and Saturday, April 3-4, at Jim Spooner Field.

The Argonauts (19-12, 12-9) remain in sixth in the GSC standings entering the weekend. The Choctaws (11-21, 3-17), who are ineligible for the postseason, are in 11th. Only the top six teams make the GSC Tournament in May.

UWF is 18-4 at home this season while MC is 3-10 away from home. This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams. MC was a GSC member from 1972 to 1995 before it transitioned to NCAA Division III. UWF began playing in the GSC in 1995, and MC began transitioning back to NCAA D-II and playing in the GSC this season.
 
Military Appreciation Day

Both the baseball and softball teams are hosting Military Appreciation games Saturday, April 4. The first 100 fans in attendance will receive a UWF shirt or camo hat. All members of the military will receive free admission with a valid ID.
 
Scouting MC

The Choctaws' rotation is led by Brooks Fortenberry (2-3, 5.17 ERA). 

The MC offense is led by Caleb Upton (.355 avg, four homers, 23 RBIs) and Hunter Bolin (.351 avg, 21 runs, 20 RBIs).
 
Team Leaders

Reed Bright is second in the GSC with a 1.95 ERA and Brandon Nagem is fourth with a 2.02. Bright is second in the conference in opponent's batting average (.198) and Nagem is fifth (.210). 

Ledarious Clark is third in the GSC with seven homers, eighth with a .588 slugging percentage and third with 12 stolen bases. Chase Kiefer is seventh in the GSC with 41 hits and first with 14 steals.

UWF leads the conference in walks plus hits per innings pitched (1.19), walks allowed per nine innings (2.27) and  strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.53). The Argos are fifth, ninth, and 12th in the nation in those categories, respectivley.
 
Schedule Changes

UWF's away game scheduled for April 21 at Stillman has been canceled. 

The Argonauts have moved their April game against Spring Hill from April 22 to April 21. The Argos will play the Badgers in a doubleheader April 21 at 3 p.m. at Jim Spooner Field. Both games of the doubleheader are scheduled for seven innings.
