PENSACOLA, Fla. – The West Florida baseball team clinched a berth in the Gulf South Conference Tournament and swept a two-game, rain-shortened series against Delta State at Jim Spooner Field Sunday.
The Argonauts won a game that had been suspended due to weather 2-0 in the first game before coming back to defeat the Statesmen 6-5 in the second game of the day.
"It was a great win to finish up the game from yesterday," UWF coach
Mike Jeffcoat said. "You hated for it to stop with
Brandon Nagem throwing lights out yesterday, but
Walker O'Connor threw three great innings today.
Ronnie May did a great job closing it out.
"In the second game, we got behind the eight ball a little bit. But, our guys showed some resiliency. We put a two-spot on the board to get close. Then, we were eventually able to take the lead.
Reed Bright did a great job out of the bullpen and May closed it again. The guys showed a lot of fight and heart on the final day at Jim Spooner Field."
