UWF improves to 3-1 on the year with a pair of wins on Saturday

West Florida sweeps No. 21 Arkansas Ft. Smith in the final match of the 2015 Hampton Inn-vitational

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida volleyball team earned two wins on the final day of the 2015 Hampton Inn-vitational on Saturday night at the UWF Field House. West Florida improves to 3-1 on the season after defeating Bridgeport 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-15) in the first match of the day before upending No. 21 Arkansas Ft. Smith 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-22) in the nightcap.
 
UWF sophomore setter Monique StCyr (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown HS) was named tournament most valuable player while senior Autumn Duyn (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) was named to the all-tournament team.
 
West Florida 3, Bridgeport 0
 
Duyn had her best performance of weekend against Bridgeport, tallying 16 kills at an impressive .467 clip with 13 digs and a pair of blocks. Junior Kathryn Torre (Highland, Ill./Highland HS) continued her strong start to the season with nine kills on 14 attempts with no errors at a .643 clip and added three blocks.
 
StCyr led the team with 33 assists while junior Holly Mattmuller (Venice, Fla./Venice HS) had a team-high 14 digs in the win.
 
West Florida tallied 45 kills in the win while Bridgeport tallied only 25. The Argonauts also had seven service aces in the win as StCyr and senior Colleen Starrs (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Central HS) led the team with three aces each.
 
West Florida 3, No. 21 Arkansas Ft. Smith 0
 
UWF earned its first victory of the season over a ranked opponent on Saturday night with a 3-0 win over No. 21 Arkansas Ft. Smith. The attack for West Florida was spread out evenly during the match, with five Argonauts tallying six kills in the win.
 
Junior Cora Bidlack (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) led the team with nine kills at a .467 clip and added six blocks while Duyn and junior Corisha Smith (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman HS) each tallied eight kills in the win.
 
Torre again had a stellar performance in the win over UAFS with an impressive nine blocks in the front row. The junior tallied her second straight match with no attack errors. Torre had seven kills at a .438 clip.
 
StCyr had 35 assists, seven digs, one block and a service ace in the win while junior Tori Martella (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence HS) tallied a team-high 23 digs.

West Florida will next compete in the Colorado Premier Challenge next week on September 11-12. UWF will open the tournament on Friday, Sept. 11 against Missouri S&T at 2:30 p.m. MT before facing No. 18 Ferris State later that day at 6:30 p.m. MT.
