BOX SCORE
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to four after posting a season-high four goals and 25 shots in a 4-3 win over Alabama Huntsville. UWF remains unbeaten in conference home games this year with a 3-0 record.
UWF (6-5-1, 5-1-1 GSC) got the scoring started early, as
Brandon Jose provided a pass down the right sideline to
Stephen Enderlin who immediately crossed it to an open
Gavin Gillies and found the back of the net for his third goal of the year in the 6
th minute.
In the 25
th minute a cross from
Kameron Bethell was punched away by UAH goalkeeper Gabriel Chilas, but was immediately headed by
Tristan Rehrig who put it past Chilas to give UWF a 2-0 lead. Bethell recorded his conference-high fifth GSC assist of the season on the play.
Rehrig got involved on the offensive end once again roughly 20 minutes later, as his shot that was saved by Chilas rebounded to a wide-open
Erick Rivera, who netted his first career goal in front of an open net.
With the score at 3-1,
Isaiah Lopez became the second player of the game to score his first collegiate goal, as Lopez made a break down the right side of the field and fired off a shot into the bottom left corner of the net for a 4-1 UWF lead.
UAH (4-9-1, 2-4-1 GSC) showed some life in the last 11 minutes of the game, as Khalil Bell scored twice for the Chargers to create a 4-3 score. With Bell's goal coming in the 84
th minute, the Argonauts were able to use the clock effectively in the final six minutes and secure a 4-3 victory.
UWF outshot the Chargers, 25-10. The Argonaut defense limited UAH's offensive chances, especially in the first half, as the Argonauts only permitted one UAH shot in the first 45 minutes.
Phil D'Amico notched a pair of saves en route to his sixth win of the season, while
Austin Zelnik, who took over for the last 10 minutes of the game, recorded a save in the effort.
Lopez and Bethell each recorded a game-high seven shots, including both putting three on goal. Rivera contributed five shots in the contest.
