West Florida to Face Shorter and No. 6 Lee on the Road

Argonauts stand at 7-3, 5-0 on the year

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida women's soccer team hits the road for two Gulf South Conference games this weekend, against Shorter and Lee. The Friday afternoon game against Shorter is slated for a 5 p.m. ET start, while the game against No. 6 Lee on Sunday will begin at 1 p.m. ET.
 
Both games will have live stats available, and fans can access those links at GoArgos.com. Additionally, the Lee game will have a video broadcast.
 

Recapping Last Week
*West Florida went 1-1 over the last week, with a close 3-2 loss against No. 13 Columbus State and a dominant 4-0 win over Gulf South Conference foe North Alabama.
*Kaley Ward and Marjorie Boilesen kept their hot streaks going against CSU, as Ward scored for the sixth time in her last seven games, and Boilesen added a goal and an assist, keeping alive her streak of scoring at least one point in every game of her college career.
*Savanna Soares scored the first two goals of her career, and Ward scored again on Sunday against North Alabama. Kaljit Atwal also figured into the offensive equation, tallying two assists.
 
The Best Offense
*West Florida leads the GSC in points per game (8.00), scoring offense (2.9 goals per game), total goals (29) and total points (80). UWF ranks 11th or better nationally in each of those categories.
*The freshman Boilesen has made an immediate impact in the league, holding the conference lead in assists per game (0.78), points per game (2.33), total assists (7) and total points (21).
*Argonauts make up several top-five spots in individual statistical rankings in the conference. Sara Helgadottir is second in assists per game (0.60), Ward and Boilesen each rank second in the league with seven goals, and Ward (third) and Helgadottir (fifth) are in the top five in total points.
 
And A Good Defense
*UWF has paired one of the top offenses in the nation with a strong defense. West Florida is fourth in the conference with a 0.99 goals against average and second in the league with a .600 shutout percentage.
*Junior keeper Katelyn Burkhart is 28th nationally and ranks second in the GSC with a .603 GAA.
 

Scouting Shorter
*The Lady Hawks stand at 1-8 with an 0-4 record in the GSC, and the team's lone win came against Bryan College on September 28.
*Shorter has taken conference losses to North Alabama (2-0), Lee (5-1), Union (7-0) and Christian Brothers (1-0).
*SU has posted just 0.56 goals per game on the year and is allowing the opposition to score 2.78 goals per game.
*Shorter returns first team All-GSC defender Chanel Mosley, who has played every possible minute for the team in her junior season.
 
Scouting Lee
*The Lady Flames enter the weekend ranked No. 6 in Division II by the NSCAA. Lee defeated Christian Brothers and Union last weekend, and took down then-No. 1 Columbus State 2-1 in Cleveland, Tennessee.
*Lee has posted one of the best defenses in Division II this year, with a 0.33 goals against average through nine games. The Lady Flames lead the GSC in goals against average, save percentage, and shutout percentage.
*UWF and Lee have each played Union, Christian Brothers, Columbus State and North Alabama. The Lady Flames have outscored those teams 6-1, and UWF has outscored the opposition 13-3.
*Lee returns three of its four All-GSC performers from last season, all of whom were first-teamers. Summer Lanter leads the team with six goals and ranks third in the conference in goals and points per game. Midfielder Kinsey Cichowitz returns for her senior season and has scored four times this year, and junior defender Meagan Newman leads the team with 827 minutes played.
*West Florida is 2-1-1 all-time against Lee. The Lady Flames took a 1-0 win in Pensacola last year during the regular season before Lee advanced in the GSC Semifinal match over UWF in a penalty kick shootout.
