BOX SCORE
October 7, 2016
ROME, Ga. – The University of West Florida men's soccer team and the Shorter University Hawks fought for 110 minutes, but were unable to break a 1-1 score on Friday night.
After a picture-perfect pass from
Tristan Rehrig to
Chandler Castleman, Castleman was able to break free from Shorter's backline and put one past the keeper to put UWF up 1-0 in the 39th minute.
Shorter's Mauricio Rancel had a free kick just outside of the 18-yard box, and placed it perfectly in the top left corner of the net to tie the score at 1-1.
Freshman
Phil D'Amico posted arguably his most impressive match of the season, recording a career-high nine saves. Three of D'Amico's nine saves came in overtime, which included a pair of diving efforts.
Castleman led the offense with the goal, while also posting a game-high three shots with all three of his shots being on target.
Defenders
Allan Kuhne,
Barrett Mills and
Daniel Smith all played key roles in preventing Hawks' attacks for the duration of the contest. An exceptional effort came from
Owen Munro, who halted numerous attacks including several in overtime.
The tie marks as UWF's first in over two years, with its previous tie being a scoreless draw against Lee on Oct. 3, 2014.
UWF remains on the road and plays Lee on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
