CLINTON, Miss.  –   The University of West Florida men's soccer team continued its late-season winning ways by eliminating the No. 2-seeded Shorter Hawks 1-0 on Friday afternoon. West Florida has now clinched a spot in the Gulf South Conference Tournament Final, and the Argos have now been one of the conference's final two teams in nine of the last 11 seasons. UWF is also on the longest unbeaten streak in the South Region, having won or tied each of its last nine matches.

Kameron Bethell, who recorded at least one point in his seventh consecutive game, provided the game's lone goal after collecting an Allan Kuhne throw-in during the 37th minute. The goal is Bethell's fourth of the year, while Kuhne collected his second assist of the 2016 campaign.

Goalkeeper Phil D'Amico posted one of his most impressive performances of the season, collecting four saves in the effort. A pair of D'Amico's saves came in the second half, which included a highlight-reel diving effort with roughly 15 minutes remaining in the contest.

The Argonaut defense held Shorter to putting just four of its 16 shots on frame. Kuhne, and fellow defenders Daniel Smith and Barrett Mills each played 90 minutes on the backline to help UWF post its sixth shutout of the season. West Florida put seven shots on target in the contest.

Head coach Bill Elliott earned his 350th career win at West Florida, divided between 252 wins with the men's soccer program and 98 wins with the women's soccer team from 1995-2001.

West Florida awaits either two-time defending GSC Tournament Champion West Alabama or No. 1 seed and tournament host Mississippi College. The GSC Tournament Final is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday from Longabaugh Field at Mississippi College.
