BOX SCORE PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 4-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team defeated the NAIA No. 2-ranked Auburn Montgomery Warhawks 7-2 in the team's home opener on Tuesday afternoon. West Florida (5-0, 3-0 GSC) took two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches in the win.
"It's always a battle between these two teams every year," head coach
Derrick Racine said. "We started well in the doubles winning the top two. Heading into singles, (AUM) has a lot of scrappy players that get a lot of balls back and make you play, and that's kind of the way it was today."
"We jumped on them at one and two singles but three through six were all battles out there. This is what we need early in the year to learn how to gut out those matches so I'm really proud of the guys, it was a really good match today."
The No. 5-ranked doubles team of senior
