Game NotesUWF Notes (pdf)

* This is the 32nd season of West Florida Basketball. UWF has an all-time record of 436-420 (.510) in 856 games. UWF is 124-197 (.385) in 21 seasons of Gulf South Conference play. The Argonauts have made nine conference tournament appearances.

YEAR ONE OF THE JEFF BURKHAMER ERA
* The Argos are in the first season under Jeff Burkhamer, who was announced as the fourth head coach in program history on April 15, 2015. The 31-year coaching veteran entered the year with a 218-153 (.588) record in 13 seasons as the head coach at Lander and Armstrong State. He also has a record of 155-41 in six seasons as a junior college head coach at North Greenville College and Santa Fe Community College. The Ohio native has Division I experience as an assistant at Winthrop (1984-85), Charleston Southern (1985-87) and Morehead State (1987-89), and was on the coaching staff for the Grand Rapids Hoops (1991-94) in the CBA.

THEY CALL IT THE STREAK
* With apologies to Ray Stevens, the UWF basketball team had won its last three games (prior to Thursday's loss at West Georgia), marking the longest winning streak for the program since the start of last season when the Argonauts went 4-0 to open the year.
* So just how has a team that was 3-16 been able to win three of its last four games? The team started to shoot the ball better than it had all season. Over the last four games, the Argos have gotten hot from the floor, making 48 percent of their shots, 42 percent from outside and an unthinkable 80 percent from the line.
* Junior Mario Stramaglia has found his shooting touch from outside, connecting on 17-of-38 from outside over four games. The Argos have continued to outrebound their oppoonents as they have for the majority of the year and are turning the ball over 13.3 times - just over 1 less than their season average.

ABOUT WEST ALABAMA
* West Alabama enters the game at 11015 overall and 7-13 in GSC play. The Tigers have dropped six-straight but are still in the hunt for a spot in the postseason tournament - currently tied with Shorter for eighth place.
* Deontaye Ewing (12.8 ppg) leads a group of five players who average 8.8 points or more. Aditionally, Acie Vance (12.0 ppg), Simeon Dennis (10.9 ppg) are double-figure scorers.
* Four Tigers have made 31 or more 3-pointers on the year, led by Jake Jobing's 54, which ranks 10th in the GSC. UWA is second in the GSC in 3FG pct at .395.

SERIES HISTORY VS. UWA
* UWF and UWA are playing for the 43rd time in men's basketball on Saturday, with UWF holding a 23-19 all-time advantage.
* The Argos' win in January snapped a six-game UWA win streak.
* UWF dominated the series in the early 2000's, posting a 12-game win streak from Feb. 15, 1999 - Feb. 21, 2005.
* LAST MEETING: Jelani Pruitt and Austin Somerfield each posted a double-double to lead UWF to a 77-70 win at the UWF Field House on Jan. 9. Pruitt went for a team-best 20 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists, while Somerfield added 13 points and 11 boards. UWF owned the boards, outrebounding UWA, 47-30, and putting in 17 second-chance points on 14 offensive rebounds. UWF trailed for just 30 seconds late in the first half and led by as many as 16 in the second half.
