UWF Falls To West Alabama On The Road

Argos face Spring Hill in Mobile Wednesday & Valdosta State at home on Saturday

LIVINGSTON, Ala.
- The West Florida men's basketball team ran into a deperate and hot-shooting West Alabama squad Saturday, falling to the Tigers, 86-55, at Pruitt Hall.

Austin Somerfield led UWF (6-18, 5-16 Gulf South) with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including a perfect effort on six free throws. Mario Stramaglia was the only other Argonaut in double figures, finishing with 10 points and two 3-pointers.

The Argos shot 35 percent as a team and were outrebounded 31-20.

West Alabama (12-15, 8-3) shot 54 percent and scored 15 points off 10 UWF turnovers. The Tigers were also 15-of-17 at the foul line and made nine 3-pointers.

The game opened with some sloppy play at both ends of the floor. UWA held a 21-17 lead with 8:49 in the half before scoring 15 of the next 20 points to grab a 36-22 lead 1:51 to play. The Tigers led 40-24 at the half.

UWA came out in the first 5:30 of the second half and outscored UWF 13-4 to put the game out of reach 53-28.

The Argos never got closer than 23 the rest of the game.

UWF will travel to Mobile, Ala. to face Spring Hill on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before returning to the UWF Field House on Saturday for the final game of the season against Valdosta State at 4:00 p.m.
