Jimmy Redovian was able to reach on an error by Spring Hill to bring in
Ladeavon Matthews to tie things up at 2-2.
Michael Savas was next up with a bases-loaded opportunity and walked to bring home the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run.
With the win, UWF now sits at 6-5 on the young season, while SHC falls to 7-6.
Brandon Nagem got the start on the mound for the Argonauts, firing five strong innings with surrendering one earned run and four hits. Nagem matched his season-high with seven strikeouts, yet dealt with some control issues posting a season-high three walks.
In the home half of the second inning, Nagem was stuck in a jam with a bases-loaded, no-out situation. After surrendering one run, the senior left-hander was able to retire three consecutive batters to limit the damage.
Jarrod Petree continued his successful 2016 campaign, firing 1.1 innings of shutout, hitless baseball. Petree now holds a 1.13 ERA for the 2016 season while holding an imposing .083 opponent's batting average.
Offense came at a premium on Wednesday night for the Argos, as the UWF lineup was able to string together four hits on the afternoon.
Colby Brown had a 1-for-4 showing with a double and an RBI, while Matthews,
Nic Strasser and
Justin Ambrosino were able to scrounge up the other three hits for UWF.
West Florida baseball now awaits a highly anticipated series against Gulf South Conference foe and No. 18-ranked team in the nation Valdosta State. First pitch of a doubleheader from Jim Spooner Field in Pensacola is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
