BOX SCORE VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 4-ranked University of West Florida men's tennis team defeated the No. 40-ranked Florida Tech Panthers 8-1 on a neutral court in Valdosta, Georgia on Sunday morning. West Florida (8-0, 4-0 GSC) improves to 5-0 against nationally ranked opponents on the year.
The No. 5-ranked doubles team of senior
Kenny Brasil (Apucarana, Brazil) and junior
Alex Peyrot (Castelnaudary, France) improved to 8-0 on the year with an 8-6 win over JJ Clark and Ricardo Corona at number one doubles.
Senior
Juan Pablo Boada (La Paz, Bolivia) and junior
Pedro Roese (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) improved to 6-2 on the year with a 9-8 win over Aria Canadell and Tjimon Louisy at number two doubles while senior
Pablo Borrero (Pereira, Colombia) and junior
Pablo Tellez (Bogota, Columbia) earned their second-straight win at number three doubles with an 8-4 victory over Wade Ball and Gerard Carpinell.
No. 11 Peyrot improved to 2-0 against regionally ranked opponents with a 6-1, 7-5 win at number one singles over Canadell. With the win, Peyrot notched his 40
th career singles victory and improved to 7-0 overall on the year.
No. 22 Brasil defeated Ball 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles while sophomore
Sebastian Sanchez (Bogota, Colombia) won his sixth straight match by defeating Jose Martinez 6-1, 6-0 at number four singles.
Junior
Douglas Boe (Vinhedo, Brazil) improved to 7-0 on the year by defeating Carpinell 6-1, 6-2 at number five singles while Roese defeated Foresight Okungbowa 6-1, 6-3 at number six singles. Boada fell to Corona 6-7, 3-6 at number two singles.
West Florida will next play host to Gulf South Conference opponent Shorter University on Friday, March 4 at 11 a.m.
