CLINTON, Miss. –
Mario Stramaglia made a career-high six 3-pointers and the West Florida men's basketball team drained 13 long balls total in a 80-75 road win over Mississippi College at A.E. Wood Coliseum Saturday.

Stramaglia led all players with a career-high 25 points and was 6-of-9 from outside in 19 minutes off the bench. His six threes were the third-highest in the Gulf South Conference this season.

Justin Williams added four triples of his own for 14 points and Austin Somerfield finished with 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

UWF (4-16, 3-14 Gulf South) shot 47 percent in the game and made 13 3-pointers – the most by an Argonaut club since the 2007-08 season. Saturday's win also snapped a seven-game losing skid and marked the program's first road victory since December of 2014 - a span of 18 games.

In addition to the strong effort from beyond the arc, UWF posted its highest percentage of the season at the free throw line, converting on 17-of-18 for 94 percent. The Argos came into the game as a 65 percent team on the year.

UWF was unconscious from outside to start the game, making four of its first five before ending the opening stanza with a season-high 10 and a 46-30 lead.

The Choctaws battled back throughout the second half and drew to within one, at 71-70 with 1:28 remaining. But that's when Stramaglia came up big again, nailing another long ball that pushed the lead to 74-70, 30 seconds later.

Tristan Moore made two free throws to cut the UWF lead to 76-75 with 14.8 remaining. Then things got hectic as the Argos, who struggled with the press for much of the final few minutes, were put into a held-ball situation - which luckily stayed in their favor - and then almost inbounded it out of bounds. Instead, Stramaglia was fouled and then a technical foul was assessed to Moore moments later, Stramaglia made all four foul shots to secure the game for UWF.

MC (6-13, 5-12) shot 54 percent and collected 12 steals off 16 UWF turnovers. Jonathan McGee led the team with 24 points, including five 3-pointers.

UWF will return home for a pair of games next week, beginning Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Christian Brothers and Union on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
