Chandler Blanchet maintained his lead at the Gulf South Conference Championship Monday, birdying the final two holes to shoot a 4-under-par 68 on The Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals,
The Gainesville, Florida native is at 5-under-par 139 for the tourney, one shot ahead of Lee's Shea Sylvester. Those two are the only players under par after 36 holes of the 54-hole event.
The team race has also evolved into a two-man battle, with Lee holding a 7-shot lead over UWF. Lee shot 3-under-par in the second round to extend its lead from four to seven. UWF recorded a 288 and is at 583 overall. Valdosta State is in third at 597, with Delta State and North Alabama tied fourth at 600.
UWF made the turn at 4-under-par before it played the back nine at 4-over. The Argonauts combined for 10 birdies going out but just five coming back in.
"We just didn't finish the day off," UWF head coach
Steve Fell said. "The guys know what they have to do (on Tuesday). We need to put up a low number and hope they (Lee) don't play that great."
Blanchet actually dropped to second place with a bogey on 13 but finished with birdies on the final two holes to regain the top spot. He had six birdies and two bogeys on Monday.
Senior
Talin Rajendranath played the majority of his round at even or one over before a double bogey at 17 saw him finish with a 75. He is tied for ninth at 147.
Freshman
Bryce Geraghty is tied for 14th at 149. He followed yesterday's 74 with a 75.
Sophomore
Henry Westmoreland IV birdied three of the first seven holes and was at 3-under-par through much of the back nine before a pair of bogeys at Nos. 15 and 16, and a birdie at No. 17 allowed him to sign for a 2-under-par 70. He moved up 19 places on the leaderboard into a tie for 19th at 150.
Redshirt freshman
Christian Bosso had a 76, taking two strokes of his first round score, and is tied for 25th at 154.
For Tuesday's final 18, UWF will be paired with Lee and Valdosta State for the second-consecutive day. The first tee time for the wave will start at 10:15 a.m.
