MOBILE, Ala. – Gray Dorsey earned his first career win,
Kyle Hamner brought in two RBI and
Steve McClellan recorded his Gulf South Conference-best eighth save of the season as the No. 11-nationally ranked University of West Florida baseball team completed the season sweep of Spring Hill after defeating the Badgers 4-1 on Tuesday night.
With the win, UWF is now an eye-popping 18-2 in its last 20 games. For the Argonauts, it is the most successful 20-game span since the 2011 team posted a 22-game winning streak.
Dorsey's night featured a span of 3.2 innings without allowing a hit, as the Gulf Breeze product allowed just four hits while striking out three in five innings of work against the Badgers.
West Florida (32-13) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in a three-hit first inning.
Nic Strasser was able to score from first on a
Justin Ambrosino double to right center and Ambrosino later came around to score on Hamner's single through the middle.
Hamner recorded his second RBI in the fifth on an RBI single to right center to give the Argonauts a 3-0 lead.
Spring Hill (29-16) recorded its only run in the seventh inning, as Badger centerfielder Ulysses Fluellen hit his eighth home run of the season to cut UWF's lead to 3-1.
West Florida added some insurance in the eighth, as
Jimmy Redovian recorded his 20
th RBI of the season on a single up the middle to score
John Price.
UWF utilized three different relief pitchers, beginning with
Brandon Nagem who pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning with two strikeouts.
Cole Crowder allowed one run in two innings of work, while
Steve McClellan shut the door in the ninth inning recording one strikeout and allowing one hit.
Ambrosino, Hamner and Redovian all posted two-hit performances to lead the lineup for UWF.
The Argos look to capture its first GSC regular season championship since 2011 this weekend, as the squad needs just one win in its three-game series against Lee to claim the first place spot. The new start time for the UWF-LU series is now Friday, April 29 at 5:00 p.m. in Cleveland, Tennessee.
