PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 4 ranked UWF men's tennis team rode the momentum of a doubles sweep into a 7-2 win over top-ranked and previously undefeated Hawai'I Pacific at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Center Thursday.

After taking the three doubles matches, the Argonauts clinched the overall result with wins in two of the first four completed singles matches. UWF (16-3) also snapped a two-match losing streak to HPU (13-1). The last win over the Sharks came in the 2014 Division II National Championship match.

"It's a good win for the program," UWF head coach
Derrick Racine said. "We've been up and down this year. We've had some really good wins and some tough losses, so its good to start peaking at the right time now. All the guys played really hard – especially in doubles. It's the best doubles we've played this year to date."

UWF opened the match with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles spots, with the tandems of
Pedro Roese/
Juan Pablo Boada and
Pablo Tellez/
Pablo Borrero earning wins of 8-5 and 8-6, respectively.

The focus then turned to court one where the Argonauts' third-ranked national duo of
Kenny Brasil and
Alex Peyrot outlasted HPU's No. 1 ranked tandem of Thibaud Berland and Alexander Meyer, 9-8.

"We played really aggressive on the doubles and it carried over into singles. We were prepared to stay out there as long as it took to get the W."

Things didn't take too long for the visitor's to get on the board as Berland, who is also the No. 1 singles player in the ITA rankings, won 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot.

But from there, UWF controlled the tempo winning four of the final five matches. Peyrot took down Meyer, 6-2, 6-2 for the fourth point. The Argos clinched the victory two matches later when Brasil improved to 11-3 with his fifth-consecutive win, defeating Jaime Martinez-Vich, 6-4, 7-6 (1).

The Argonauts will return to action on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. against No. 3 Armstrong State at the Carson Tennis Complex.
