Pittaway Leads The Way For Volleyball's Fourth Straight Win

Argos take out West Alabama in three sets to improve to 6-4 on the year

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Senior Kourtney Pittaway posted a team single-match best 19 kills on 37 attempts while contributing defensively with 11 digs in the University of West Florida volleyball team's dominating 3-0 win (25-11, 25-11, 25-18) over Gulf South Conference foe West Alabama on Saturday afternoon.
 
UWF improves to 6-4 on the season and has now won four straight matches while maintaining a perfect 2-0 mark in GSC play. West Alabama falls to 7-4 on the year with a 1-2 GSC mark.
 
West Florida posted its most dominating set victory of the season in the first set, besting the Tigers 25-11. With a 16-11 lead in the first set, UWF rattled off nine unanswered points to finish the set.
 
UWF maintained its red-hot run heading into the second set, jumping out to a 6-0 advantage to extend the streak to 15-straight unanswered points. Pittaway and Holly Mattmuller each had two kills on UWF's 6-0 run to begin the second set.  The Argos would go on to post another 25-11 victory in the second set to jump ahead 2-0.
 
The Argos faced its only deficit of the match in the early stages in the third set, as West Alabama began the set by taking a 6-5 lead. UWF responded by recording four consecutive points to gain a 9-6 lead, and would not trail for the remainder of the set, as the Argos would complete the sweep with a 25-18 third set victory.
 
Tori Martella and Monique StCyr each contributed double-digit dig totals with 16 and 11, respectively. StCyr added 25 assists in the effort, while Martella led all players in the match with a pair of service aces.
 
Corisha Smith added 15 kills on a .519 attack percentage to assist in the dominating offensive effort.

The Argos hit at an outstanding .377 clip, while limiting West Alabama to a dismal .065 percentage. West Florida had five blocks in comparison to UWA's two, while the Argonauts were able to control the ball defensively by owning a 54-39 advantage in digs.
 
West Florida has now won seven consecutive sets, with the streak dating back to last weekend's four-set victory over No. 8 Lewis. The streak stands as the longest for UWF since winning 10 straight games from Nov. 7 to Nov. 21 towards the end of last season.
 
Volleyball will face a 4-6 (2-1 GSC) Valdosta State squad on the road on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
