UWF Men's Soccer Squares Off With Spring Hill Saturday For GSC Supremacy

Neither squad has lost a match since early September

LIVE STATS

PENSACOLA, Fla. –
UWF men's soccer will travel to Spring Hill Saturday for the most important match of the regular season to this point. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The Argos (9-2-2, 7-0-1 GSC) currently sit in second place with 22 points. The Badgers (12-1-0, 8-0-0 GSC) now lead the conference with 24 points after a Wednesday win at Christian Brothers. A win would allow either the Argos or the Badgers to control their own destiny for the top seed in the GSC Tournament, which begins Oct. 30.

ARGOS CLOSE FINAL HOME WEEKEND WITH TWO WINS

* The Argos cruised to a 4-1 victory over West Alabama Friday evening at the UWF Soccer Complex. Ed Chappe finished with two goals. Sean Hoffstatter finished with two assists.
* UWF men's soccer celebrated Senior Day with a 4-1 comeback victory vs. the Alabama Huntsville Chargers Sunday afternoon. The win extended the team's current unbeaten streak to ten games.
* The Argos faced adversity Sunday as they acknowledged the careers of nine players, including redshirt senior Jacob Murray. Murray, the reigning United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week, was a late scratch (illness). He was replaced by Jihad Gomes, who recorded five saves. The Chargers challenged him with 14 shots on the day.

HOFFSTATTER, GOMES EARN WEEKLY GSC HONORS

* Hoffstatter was named the Gulf South Men's Soccer Player of the Week, and Gomes was named the Gulf South Men's Soccer Defender of the Week.
* Hoffstatter, the conference's leader in goals and points, enjoyed another superb week. He picked up a pair of assists Friday vs. West Alabama before going off for two goals Sunday vs. Alabama Huntsville. His six points came in a pair of 4-1 victories. The redshirt junior from Fort Walton Beach has now earned the GSC Player of the Week honor twice this season.
* Gomes picked up his first GSC Defender of the Week Honor. The keeper filled in for Jacob Murray, the reigning GSC Defender of the Week and United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week, after the redshirt senior was scratched due to illness shortly before Sunday's game. Gomes substituted admirably, recording a penalty save to help the Argos go to halftime tied 0-0 vs. UAH.

 GSC LEADERS

* Sean Hoffstatter currently leads the Gulf South Conference with 13 goals. He is also the GSC leader in points (31) and points per game (2.58). He is tied for second in the conference with five assists and is the only player currently averaging north of one goal per game (1.083). He is also tied for the most game-winning goals (3) in the conference. He is tied for fifth in the GSC with 2.75 shots per game.

* Three of the Badgers' last four wins have come by one goal. Spring Hill took down Christian Brothers 3-2 in a double-overtime thriller Wednesday.
* Alexander Lipinski leads the GSC with 3.10 shots per game. He is second in the conference with 2.40 points per game and 1.00 goals per game.
