UWF Men's Soccer Back Home For Crucial Weekend vs. Lee, Shorter

Friday matchup vs. Lee will be a battle of the GSC's top two teams

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Winners of six in a row, UWF men's soccer returns home this weekend for a crucial mid-season stretch. The Argos will take on Lee in a showdown of the conference's top two teams Friday and then close the weekend against a winless Shorter squad Sunday.
 
The Argo offense has continued to be the class of the conference. During the six-match win streak, the offense has exploded for 27 goals. The team has scored at least four goals in five of the six matches during the streak.

UWF (6-2-1, 4-0-0 GSC) will open the weekend with a 5:00 p.m. matchup with Lee (7-2-1, 5-0-0 GSC) Friday. The weekend will conclude vs. Shorter (0-10, 0-5 GSC) at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. The contests are the first of four straight at home for UWF. 
 
Friday's match vs. Lee will be Argonaut Athletic Club Night at the UWF Soccer Complex. All Argonaut Athletic Club members plus their parties will receive free admission plus subs, chips and drinks.
 

HOFFSTATTER EARNS GSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
* Sean Hoffstatter has been named the Gulf South Men's Soccer Player of the Week following his performances at Auburn Montgomery and Montevallo. Hoffstatter posted a goal and an assist in each game over the weekend and currently ranks first in the GSC in points and goals.

* The striker from Choctawhatchee High and Darton State has overcome early-season injury struggles to emerge as one of the top offensive players in the conference. He has scored 10 times this season, and, in addition to leading the conference in goals and points, he is also tied for the lead in game-winning goals (3).
 
* Hoffstatter is tied for fifth in the NCAA in goals per game (1.25). He is also fifth nationally in points per game (2.88). The award is his first and the first of the season for UWF men's soccer.

ARGOS TAKE WEEKEND MATCHES IN ALABAMA
* The Argos made it five straight victories with a 3-1 win at Auburn Montgomery Friday evening. Andrew Wentz and Hoffstatter notched a pair of first half goals, and Gavin Gillies found the back of the net for some late insurance deep in the second half to help UWF stay perfect in conference play.
 
* UWF men's soccer ran its win streak to six straight with a 5-2 win at Montevallo Sunday afternoon. The Argos got five goals from five different players in the win. Hoffstatter, Jerry Wiltshire, Rafael Godoi, Ed Chappe and Mathias Ferraz all scored. Jacob Murray picked up the win in net. He allowed a first half goal to Antoni Matabosch and a second half goal to Arad Lev but otherwise made five saves. UWF outshot UM 20-12 overall. The game featured 23 fouls, 14 of them by the Falcons.
 
TOP SPOT UP FOR GRABS
* Lee (5-0) currently sits in the top spot in the GSC with UWF (4-0) just a half game behind. The Flames, Argos and Spring Hill Badgers (3-0) are the only unbeaten teams remaining in the conference.
 
* The Flames currently pace the GSC with 15 conference points vs. 12 for the Argonauts. A UWF win would move the team into a first-place tie in points and give the squad a head-to-head edge. West Florida and Lee will not meet again in the regular season.

GSC LEADERS
* Sean Hoffstatter currently leads the GSC in goals (10) and goals per game (1.25). He also leads the conference in points (23) and points per game (2.33).

* Rafael Godoi is tied for third in the conference with four assists. Barrett Mills is tied for seventh with three.
 
* Hoffstatter (2.50) and Godoi (2.44) are eighth and ninth in the conference in shots per game.

* Jacob Murray has proven to be one of the most effective keepers in the conference this season. He is currently third in the conference with a .771 save percentage. He is also third in GAA (1.27). He is tied for fifth with 3.86 saves per game.

* As a team, UWF paces the GSC with in goals per game (3.22), shots (165), shots on goal (84), and points (77). The team is third in the conference in assists per game (2.11) and GAA (1.14). The seven goals the team scored vs. Pensacola Christian Sept. 21 are tied for the most scored in a single game in the conference this year.

SCOUTING LEE
* Lee currently leads the GSC with a 7-2-1 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in conference play. The team has won five in a row.
 
* The Flames have beaten the Shorter, Auburn Montgomery, Montevallo, Delta State and Mississippi College during their five-match win streak. The team's early season losses came against Florida Tech in their first game of the year Aug. 30 and vs. No. 4 Young Harris Sept. 11.
 
* Lee currently ranks third in the GSC in goals per game (2.40), second in the conference in points per game (7.00), and second in assists per game (2.20). The Flames are first in the conference in goals against average (.600).
 
* The Flames have four player who rank in the conference's top 10 in goals scored. Aidan Moore is currently tied for fifth with five, Palle Jespersen, Samaan Williams, and Alfie Coldron are tied for eighth with four.
 
* Jespersen and Jose Orellana are tied for third in the conference with four assists apiece. Jared McWhorter is in the conference's top 10 with three assists.
 
* Keeper Daniel Hrenko ranks first in the conference in goals against average (.610) and is second in the GSC in save percentage (.842).
 
SCOUTING SHORTER
* Shorter is currently 0-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play. The team has lost three of its last four matches by one goal. Two of those losses have come in double overtime vs. Auburn Montgomery and Delta State.
 
* The Hawks are currently 0-5 at home and 0-5 away. Sunday's matchup will be their third straight conference game on the road.
 
* Shorter is being outscored 37-11 this year. The team is being outshot 184-101. The Hawks are led by Meridian Community College alum Thallison Alex, who has scored five times this year. He is tied for fifth in the conference with that mark. Jackson Wheatley is second on the team with two goals.
 
* Alex is known for creating plenty of opportunities around the net. He ranks second in the GSC in shots per game (3.20). He is third in the conference in points per game (2.00).
