PENSACOLA, Fla. – The No. 12 West Florida Argos (13-2) shut out a potentially threatening Lee University (8-5) in their GSC clash on a windy Saturday morning at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex. The UWF Men's Tennis improves their conference record to 6-0, while the Flames drop to 2-4.
To start out this GSC competition, the Argos swept every doubles court, not dropping more than four games on any court. Both Serdar Bojedjiev/ Lucas Sanchez and Nicolas LeCoutre/Juan Cabrerra took down their opponents with identical scores of 8-3 on courts one and three. With this victory, LeCoutre and Cabrerra remain undefeated playing the third position in the doubles, increasing their record to 6-0. To round up the doubles, Springer and Castellano delivered an 8-4 victory over Blackburn and Medeiros.
After producing a favorable 3-0 lead from the doubles, the Argos continued to douse the flames. Springer posted the next point to the overall score after dropping only two games to Knott on court six. The clinching match came from the forth position as Robin Rafaitin cruised past Blackburn 6-0, 6-1. Although the match was already decided, the Flames refused to easily surrender the remaining singles matches on court. LeCoutre and Juan Motta both maintained their level throughout both sets and were able to close out their matches in straight sets. On courts two and three, Sanchez and Cabrerra both easily won the opening sets of their matches. Their opponents, however, would not allow the second set to finish quite as easily. On court three, after an intense back and forth grinding battle, Cabrerra narrowly lost the second set 7-5. This setback did not disrupt his play in the tiebreaker, and he won ten of the next eleven points. To wrap up this GSC match, Sanchez, after dropping an intense 6-7 second set, snatched the third set tiebreaker 10-7.
The Argos will now head over to Columbus, Georgia for a match against No. 6 Columbus State University. First serve will begin at 9am CT at the newly opened John W. Walden Tennis Center.
