UWF Baseball Opens Series vs. North Georgia in Dahlonega

Argos and Nighthawks play tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET

PENSACOLA, Fla. – 
No. 20 UWF baseball (27-12, 17-6 GSC) takes on North Georgia (23-15, 15-9 PBC) in a two-game series beginning tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. CT. The teams close the series with a single game tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. CT.

UWF is 9-8 on the road this season. These are the first non-conference away contests for the Argos since March 20-21, when the team traveled to Albany State and took two games by an aggregate score of 30-15 vs. the Golden Rams.
 

SCOUTING NORTH GEORGIA

* North Georgia checks into play at 23-15 overall and 15-9 in the Peach Belt Conference. The team has lost three of its last five games but most recently swept a doubleheader vs. No. 21 North Carolina Pembroke

* The Nighthawks are led by Bill LeRoy, who is hitting .349 this year, and Andres Perez, who has piled up 16 home runs and 47 RBIs.

* The Nighthawks have a 3.99 team ERA and have gotten excellent relief pitching from Parker Morrison and Jack Fleming. The two have combined for 42 appearances and posted ERAs of 2.14 and 2.67 respectively.

* The Argos are 11-13 vs. North Georgia since 1991.


ARGOS CHECK IN AT NO. 6 IN NCBWA SOUTH REGION POLL

* No. 20 UWF baseball (27-11, 17-5 GSC) came in at sixth in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II South Region Top 10.

* The Argos are coming off another series win over the weekend vs. Auburn Montgomery. UWF has won 22 of the last 26 games. The Argos have won or split their last seven conference series.

* This is the sixth straight week in the Top 10 for West Florida. The team entered the poll tied for ninth with West Georgia, rose to No. 7 and then to No. 4 before dropping back to No. 6 two weeks ago. The team rose to No. 5 last week and came in tied for sixth with Saint Leo (29-8) in this week's edition.

ARGOS RISE TO NO. 20 IN COLLEGIATE BASEBALL POLL

* UWF baseball (27-12, 17-6 GSC) has risen three spots in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll to No. 20. The ranking is the highest of the season in the Collegiate Baseball poll for UWF.

* Azusa Pacific (32-3) topped the national poll. Florida Southern (32-4-1) checked in at No. 2 while North Greenville (35-6) came in at No. 3. Tampa (31-5) came in at No. 4 while GSC leader Delta State (30-7) came in at No. 5.

* The No. 20 ranking is the third time in the Collegiate Baseball Top 25 for UWF this season. The Argos checked in at No. 23 in each of the last two weeks.

ESTRADA EARNS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS

* Argo baseball outfielder Matthew Estrada has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time in the last three weeks.

* Estrada turned in another memorable performance over the weekend vs. Auburn Montgomery. The Argos took two of three games, and Estrada finished with five hits, including one double, and two walks. He scored two runs in three games vs. the Warhawks while piling up three RBIs.

* Estrada reached in six straight plate appearances spanning the end of Game 1 through the beginning of Game 2. He has hit safely in nine of the last ten games and has a .352 average for the season, which is the top mark among Argos with at least 50 at-bats.
 

RESCHEDULE AT MONTEVALLO

* Due to the threat of inclement weather, this weekend's UWF baseball series at Montevallo has undergone scheduling changes.

* The Argos (27-12, 17-6 GSC) and Falcons (30-13, 16-7 GSC) will now play a single game Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m. and close the series with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. and close the series with a doubleheader Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
