Both UWF Teams Earn Invites to NCAA Tourney; Women Will Host South II Regional

The UWF women’s team will host matches on Saturday and Sunday this weekend

INDIANAPOLIS – The UWF men's and women's tennis teams each earned a berth in the 2018 NCAA Division II Tennis Championship South Regionals, as announced by the organization Tuesday night. The UWF women will host a 4-team regional beginning Saturday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex on campus.
 
The UWF women (26-3) earned the GSC automatic bid and are the No. 3 seed in the South II Regional, which will be hosted by UWF in Pensacola. UWF is ranked No. 3 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II National Ranking.
 
The Argonauts will face No. 6 seed Mississippi College on Saturday, April 28 at 10:00 a.m. No. 2 Lynn and No. 7 Benedict will play the other first round match at 1:00 p.m. The winners will meet on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Admission is free to all three matches.
 
The UWF women's team has appeared in all 22 NCAA tournaments since joining the association prior to the 1996-97 season. The team has advanced to the national finals site 11 times.
 
The UWF men will be the No. 5 seed in the South I Regional, hosted by Barry in Miami Shores, Fla. The Argonauts will play No. 4 seed Valdosta State in a first round match on Monday, April 30 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time. No. 1 Barry and No. 8 Benedict will play the other first round match. The winners of the two matches will face each other on Tuesday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m. ET.
 
The sixth-ranked Argonauts are 23-3 on the year after falling to VSU in finals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament. UWF is also making its 22nd-consecuitve NCAA appearance, which includes national championships in 2004, 2005, 2014 and a 32-1 run to the title last season.
 
The 16 men's and 16 women's winners of the regional tournaments will advance to the NCAA DII Men's and Women's Tennis Championships in Surprise, Ariz., May 9-12.
