Argos Travel To Auburn Montgomery For First GSC Road Series This Weekend

UWF and AUM start the three-game set Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF baseball will head to Auburn Montgomery for its first GSC road series this weekend. First pitch in the three-game set at AUM is set for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
 
"It's another opportunity for us to go show we can be successful on the road and keep the momentum with a strong start in conference play," said UWF head coach Mike Jeffcoat.

The Argos are coming off a five-game, four-day homestand that featured Christian Brothers as well as No. 18 Nova Southeastern. UWF went 4-1 on the homestand and is 5-1 dating back to a 6-2 win at Spring Hill Feb. 13.
 
"Hopefully we've established our identity as a strong pitching and defensive team and will show we can produce runs most importantly," said Jeffcoat of the upcoming set at AUM.
 
SCHEDULE CHANGES AT AUBURN MONTGOMERY
 
* The threat of inclement weather has forced a schedule change to UWF baseball's series at Auburn Montgomery.
* The Argonauts and Warhawks have changed the three-game series from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday. UWF (6-5, 3-0 GSC) and AUM (7-4, 2-1 GSC) will now begin the series with a 3:00 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 23 and close the set with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24.
 
ARGOS SWEEP CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
* UWF swept its first conference set of the season Saturday and Sunday vs. Christian Brothers.The outscored the Bucs 21-4 over the course of the series.
* The set featured a pair of complete games by Jared Hatch and Tony Kucera. Hatch began the series with an eight-inning complete game. He threw just 81 pitches, striking out five without issuing a walk. Kucera followed with a seven-inning complete game. He also threw just 81 pitches, striking out five without issuing a walk.
* UWF scored a season-high 10 runs in two of the three games vs. CBU. The team has now scored at least eight runs in four of its first 11 games this year.
 
UWF SPLITS TWO-GAME SET VS. NO. 18 NOVA
* The Argos took down No. 18 Nova Southeastern Monday 9-3. Dylan Menhennett went deep and combined with Trevor Payne for five RBIs to power the win.
*  UWF baseball outhit No. 18 Nova Southeastern 12-5 but was shutout in a 1-0 loss Tuesday at Jim Spooner Field. UWF got outstanding pitching all day from Jay Simpson (0-1) and Dylan Mills-Derouen. The two hurlers from Mississippi combined for nine innings of five-hit, 10-strikeout ball. Simpson suffered the loss after allowing the game's only run in the third on a two-out RBI single by Christian Demby. The Argos stranded a season-high 15 runners in the game, including the bases loaded in the fifth and the eighth.
 
ARGO PITCHING ON FIRE
* UWF baseball pitching has allowed just just seven runs over the last 49 innings. Of those seven runs, only five have been earned.
* On the most recent homestand, Argo pitching struck out 43 while allowing just six walks.
* The Argonaut staff allowed just 30 hits over five games on the homestand  vs. CBU and Nova.
 
GSC LEADERS
* West Florida is currently second in the conference with a 2.73 staff ERA.
* Matthew Estrada is fifth in the GSC with a .457 batting average. He is fourth with a .558 OBP. He is tied for third with 12 runs scored and is also tied for third with 16 hits. He is tied for the league lead with five hit-by-pitches and is in the conference top 10 with two home runs.
* Matt Sullivan is currently tied for second with five doubles this season. All came on the recent five-game homestand.
* Matthew Jones is third in the GSC with five stolen bases.
* Jared Hatch ranks third in the conference with an 0.69 ERA. Tony Kucera is 10th with a 1.35 mark.
* Josh Pahlad is tied for third in the GSC with two saves.
* Tony Rossi ranks ninth in the conference with 16.1 innings pitched. Kucera is ninth in opponent batting average (.184).
 
SCOUTING AUM
* The Warhawks are 7-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The team won its final two games at West Alabama 5-4 and 14-9 Feb. 15-16 to take its first GSC set of the season.
* The three-game series will be the first of six straight conference home games for the Warhawks.
* AUM is currently hitting .275 as a team. The Warhawk staff has a collective 3.96 ERA. The team has committed 21 errors through 11 games.
* AUM currently features five players hitting over .300. Dalton Cobb paces all Warhawks with at least 20 at-bats with a .378 average.
* The Warhawk bullpen features Keegan Fairley, who has been lights-out so far this year. He has allowed no runs and just one hit over five innings this year.
* The Argonauts are 6-2 vs. AUM since 2006 and 3-1 in Montgomery in that span. UWF took two out of three vs. the Warhawks in Pensacola Apr. 13-14, 2018.
