No. 12/23 Argos Run Away From Wisconsin-Whitewater In Win At Blue Wahoos Stadium

UWF set for showdown with Delta State this weekend in Cleveland, Miss.

PENSACOLA, Fla. – UWF baseball ran past Wisconsin-Whitewater 14-0 in the program's first-ever game at Blue Wahoos Stadium Wednesday evening. Seniors Matt Sullivan and Robert Lopez combined for seven RBIs as the Argos moved to 19-8 overall this season.

"Just a great night here at Wahoos Stadium," said UWF head coach Mike Jeffcoat. "Couldn't be prouder of our players. They were excited to play. More importantly, they played a clean game."

Josh Pahlad (2-1) went two innings as the starter, setting the UWF staff up for its third shutout of the season. Jared Middleton, Jay Simpson, Hunter Lucas, Kirk Maddox, and Jared Hatch combined for seven scoreless innings behind Pahlad. Argo hurlers stranded 10 baserunners.

UWF opened the scoring in the second when Dylan Menhennett tripled and scored on an RBI double by Joey Bend. The team opened the lead to 2-0 in the third on an RBI double by Adam Imwalle to score Trevor Payne.

The Argos blew the game open with an eight-run sixth. The huge rally was highlighted by a three-RBI, bases-clearing triple from Sullivan. The team added another pair of runs in the eighth on a two-run homer from Lopez. The blast was his third of the season. Sullivan picked up a fourth RBI and another triple in the ninth as the Argos got to the final margin of 14-0. Lopez picked up his third RBI of the night in the final frame.

Adam Imwalle finished with four hits plus a run and two RBIs. Trevor Payne reached four times and finished with two hits, two walks and two runs. Every player who batted for UWF reached base at least once.

Matt O'Sullivan (0-2) suffered the loss for the Warhawks despite allowing just two runs (two earned) over the first five innings of the game. UWF scored 12 of the 14 runs vs. the Warhawks bullpen. The loss dropped UW-Whitewater, which is ranked No. 14 in NCAA Div. III baseball, to 1-3 in 2019.

No. 12/23 UWF (19-8, 11-1 GSC) will take on No. 2/6 Delta State (19-5, 11-3 GSC) in a three-game set this weekend. The series between the top two teams in the Gulf South Conference kicks off with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Cleveland.

"Tonight was a special night for us, and, more importantly, we played well to keep the momentum going into this weekend with Delta State," said Jeffcoat.
